Job overview

Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) is seeking a committed and versatile Secondary Generalist Teachers to teach Key Stage 3 (KS3) English, Science, and IT/Digital Skills up to Key Stage 4. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the flexibility to support across these subjects and provide cover for absent colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons in KS3 English, Science, and IT/Digital Skills.
  • Employ a variety of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Use formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate and improve students’ progress and attainment.

Curriculum Development

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and development, ensuring alignment with KISU’s standards and objectives.
  • Integrate technology effectively to support and enhance learning, especially in IT/Digital Skills lessons.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of curriculum requirements, particularly in KS3 English, Science, and IT.

Cover Teaching

  • Provide effective cover for absent colleagues across various subjects as required.
  • Ensure continuity of learning by following planned lessons and adjusting where necessary to support student understanding and engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff members to support covered classes and manage transitions.

Student Support and Wellbeing

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, self-confidence, and a growth mindset.
  • Engage in pastoral care duties as required, supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic needs.
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team and learning support staff to provide individualised support where necessary.

Professional Development and School Involvement

  • Engage in professional learning opportunities to stay current with best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Participate actively in KISU events, open days, and after-school programmes, contributing positively to the school community.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and the wider KISU community to uphold and enrich the school’s ethos and mission.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • Qualified teacher status or equivalent, with a relevant degree in Education or a related subject.
  • Proven experience teaching KS3 subjects, with at least one of the following: English, Science, or IT/Digital Skills.
  • Ability to provide high-quality teaching across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong ICT skills with experience using educational technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching in an international or multicultural school setting.
  • Familiarity with the English National Curriculum for KS3.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing timetables and cover requirements effectively.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Adaptable and collaborative, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Proactive in seeking solutions to challenges and contributing to a positive school culture.
  • Strong organisational skills, with a commitment to meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards in all aspects of teaching and learning.
