Job Overview

The School

This is a very exciting time to be joining Durham International School Kenya. Since it opened in January 2021, Durham International has exceeded expectations.

It has captured the imagination of families – local and international alike – who are seeking a high-quality UK school education in Nairobi,

one that goes out of it’s way to create a family feel and an environment where children and young people are able to flourish.

The School has undergone significant expansion in the last year with the opening of a second campus in September 2025 for the Prep School and the Senior School.

Durham International School Kenya delivers the UK curriculum, IGCSE, and Sixth Form programmes, and currently enrolls students from over 50 nationalities.

The school operates in partnership with Durham School, one of the UK’s oldest schools and a member of the Independent Association of Prep Schools and the HMC,

the professional association for heads of the world’s leading independent schools.

The school is also an accredited member of the Council of British International Schools and a member of the Kenya Association of International Schools.

About the Role

Innovative and enthusiastic teachers and leaders form the heart of our learning community.

They commit themselves to achieving the highest standards of teaching and learning while supporting every student’s academic, social, emotional, and physical development.

As the school continues to expand, we are looking to appoint Key Stage 1 teachers who seek personal growth, professional development, and opportunities to move into leadership and departmental roles.

Remuneration Terms and Conditions

The school will offer a competitive package that reflects the successful candidates’ experience and qualifications.

Application Process

Interested applicants should complete the Durham Application Form and email it, together with a one-page covering letter, to the Headteacher at hr@durhamkenya.com.

The application deadline is Friday, 5th June 2026.

We strongly encourage candidates to apply as early as possible.

Please note that the school may not consider incomplete applications or applications submitted without both the Covering Application Letter and the Durham Application Form.

The school will contact only shortlisted candidates, and it will conduct initial interviews online.

The recruitment team will review applications as they are received, and the school reserves the right to appoint a candidate before the advert closes.

Start Date

Successful candidates should be available to begin work in Nairobi on 25th August 2026.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

Durham International School Kenya is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All applicants must be willing to undergo the relevant pre-employment checks required for the role.

Applicants must provide evidence of their most up-to-date child protection screening details, including police clearance certificates from every country where they have worked and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) record where applicable.

The school will also conduct checks with previous employers.

Before confirming an appointment, the school will request a declaration of medical fitness and proof of qualifications from the successful candidate.

Equal Opportunities

At Durham International School Kenya, we strive to create a supportive and nurturing environment for everyone.

We are committed to promoting equality and diversity and providing equal opportunities for all staff and students.

We aim to foster an inclusive culture where everyone feels empowered and encouraged to reach their full potential.
