About Girwa Radio

Girwa FM, is a licensed radio broadcasting in dholuo that runs lifestyle and entertainment programs. It is one of the Kenya’s dholuo FM radio station, with coverage in the following counties: Homabay, Migori, Kisumu, Siaya and their surroundings.
The Station’s slogan: Kelo Mor Ne Piny Luo, simply translates to ‘Brings Joy to the Luo Nation’ meaning the station is designed to bring the entire Luo Nation together to suit their deep culture to its potential through innovative programs.

Internship/Volunteer Duration:

  • Six (6) Months

Successful interns and volunteers who demonstrate commitment, professionalism, and outstanding performance will receive a Certificate of Internship/Volunteer Service and be given priority consideration for future employment opportunities at Girwa Radio as positions become available.

1. News Presenter (2 Positions)

Key Responsibilities
  • Present news bulletins professionally and accurately.
  • Research, write, edit, and translate news stories.
  • Conduct interviews and gather news content.
  • Prepare breaking news updates.
  • Observe journalism ethics and editorial standards.
  • Participate in field reporting when required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • Fluency in Dholuo is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Kiswahili and English is an added advantage.

2. Programme Presenter (2 Positions)

Key Responsibilities
  • Host live and recorded radio programmes.
  • Prepare programme content and scripts.
  • Conduct interviews with guests.
  • Engage listeners through calls, SMS, WhatsApp, and social media.
  • Promote audience participation and community engagement.
  • Support programme promotion and branding.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Journalism, Communication, Media Studies, Performing Arts, or a related field.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Fluency in Dholuo is an added advantage.

3. Studio Technician Assistant (1 Position)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in operating studio and broadcast equipment.
  • Support audio recording, editing, backups, and archive retrieval.
  • Assist with routine maintenance of studio equipment.
  • Support live broadcasts and Outside Broadcasts (OBs).
  • Maintain organised digital audio archives.
  • Ensure quality audio output during programmes.

Qualifications

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Broadcast Engineering, ICT, Electronics, Information Technology, or a related field.

4. ICT & Broadcast Technology Assistant (1 Position)

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the station website and digital platforms.
  • Support online radio streaming and live broadcasts.
  • Perform system backups and data recovery.
  • Assist in ICT system design, networking, and maintenance.
  • Work closely with the Videographer & Photographer to support online streaming and multimedia production.
  • Troubleshoot computers, networking equipment, and broadcasting systems.
  • Support installation and maintenance of broadcasting software.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in ICT, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of networking, web administration, and multimedia systems is an added advantage.

5. Videographer & Photographer (1 Position)

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture professional photographs and videos during programmes, events, and community activities.
  • Produce promotional videos, documentaries, and social media content.
  • Edit videos and photographs for digital platforms.
  • Support Facebook Live, YouTube Live, and other online streaming platforms.
  • Maintain the station’s multimedia archive.
  • Work closely with the ICT & Broadcast Technology Assistant to improve online broadcasting.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Film Production, Photography, Media Production, Communication, or a related field.
  • Experience in video editing software is an added advantage.

5. Sports Journalist & Commentator (1 Position)

Key Responsibilities

  • Cover local and regional sporting events.
  • Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches, and sports officials.
  • Prepare and present sports news bulletins.
  • Provide live sports commentary where required.
  • Produce sports features, interviews, and analysis programmes.
  • Promote grassroots sports development.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Journalism, Sports Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
  • Passion for sports and excellent communication skills.

6. Marketing & Community Engagement Agents (50 Positions) – Commission-Based

  • Girwa Radio is seeking 50 energetic, self-motivated, and results-oriented Marketing & Community Engagement Agents to expand the station’s reach, generate revenue, promote community participation, and market the Girwa Radio Talent Programme and other station services across the Nyanza Region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Girwa Radio advertising packages.
  • Promote programme sponsorship opportunities.
  • Recruit participants for the Girwa Radio Talent Programme.
  • Market Outside Broadcast (OB) services.
  • Promote Public Address (PA) system hire services.
  • Market event coverage, livestreaming, media production, and commercial recording services.
  • Promote voice-over and audio production services.
  • Sell Girwa Radio membership and promotional cards.
  • Mobilise communities for radio programmes, roadshows, campaigns, and outreach activities.
  • Build relationships with schools, colleges, churches, youth groups, businesses, NGOs, CBOs, and community leaders.
  • Identify potential advertisers, sponsors, and strategic partners.
  • Collect listener feedback and market intelligence.
  • Submit weekly sales and activity reports.

Qualifications

  • Minimum KCSE Certificate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for sales, marketing, media, and community development.
  • Self-motivated, persuasive, and target-oriented.
  • Previous sales or marketing experience is an added advantage but not mandatory.

Remuneration

  • This is a commission-based position. Agents will earn commissions based on verified sales, talent registrations, advertising secured, sponsorships obtained, and other approved Girwa Radio products and services in accordance with the station’s commission structure.
